The Best of Yorkshire for the Yorkshire Day

Ever since my lovely hubby started to introduce me to Yorkshire, it has been a voyage of discovery that seems to have no end.

You would have thought that although indisputably Yorkshire is the largest of the England’s counties after more than 15 years living here, I should have seen a lot of it. And I did but… there is still more and more… and more!

Beautiful Meadows of the Yorkshire Dales

Good morning on this first Saturday of July which is a National Meadows Day! Even though I finished school many many years ago, July will always stick in my mind as a synonym of freedom, summer and HOLIDAYS!! Oh, yes! In Poland the 1st of July was equivalent to the start of the eagerly awaited…

Gorgeous Lambs in Grassington

Good morning!👋 Not a cloud in the sky so looks like we might need some shelter later in the day. Just like these little ones on the photograph taken a few weeks ago in Grassington in beautiful Wharfedale.I was stood there absolutely glued watching these gorgeous lambs playing around this majestic moss covered tree trunk….

Delightful Village Green in Reeth in Yorkshire Dales, England

It’s a bit murky out there today so bringing some blue skies for us from our recent visit to delightful Reeth in Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales. With its amazing Green it’s a must for us each time we are up in the area – can’t remember all the benches we sat on, just taking…

At Peter’s Church in Hebden, Yorkshire Dales

Good morning!👋Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday – it was such a beautiful day and first time this year I’ve heard the nagging chatter of the baby starlings. I haven’t seen them yet but they must be out of their nests and so we are bracing ourselves for an invasion in the garden very…

A postcard from Muker in the Yorkshire Dales

For today a postcard from Muker in the Yorkshire Dales. What a gorgeous little village it is – packed with beauty and character! And of course since we’re in Swaledale – the woolly hats, socks and jumpers are part of the landscape so we had to visit this place as well. Amazing that on the…

May Day in Kettlewell in North Yorkshire

For the 1st of May what’s better than a stroll through the beautiful village of Kettlewell in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales. Even if it’s a bit cloudy it only adds to the character! Plus I found this very appropriate photo of the Maypole all set up for the festivities – in this case…

A Quacking Place in Silsden

It’s been a stunning morning but got a bit cloudy during the afternoon. Calvary – Stations of the Cross above Ilkley

During Lent and especially on Good Friday, there is a rather unique place that we always like to visit in Ilkley – the beautiful spa town in Wharfedale in West Yorkshire. This place is the Calvary – Stations of the Cross built in 1850 in Myddelton Grange Wood just above the town. After a just…

West Burton – Hidden Gem of Bishopdale

It doesn’t feel much like the end of summer – which we should technically still enjoy… I’m a hopeless softie when it comes to keeping warm and I admit I’ve been out in my woolly hat (well Peter’s to be precise as it was conveniently tucked away in the car). So that’s it for me…

A Stroll through Beningbrough Hall and Gardens

Hope you are having a lovely Friday enjoying the stunning day! I am back in the land of the living after being pretty poorly for the last two days. A lovely drive through the Wharfedale and a VERY easy stroll by the river in Burnsall was one of the best remedies one can think about….

Impressive Five Rise Locks on Leeds-Liverpool Canal

Spring is in the Aire…🥰 The impressive piece of engineering: Five Rise Locks opened in 1774 on Leeds-Liverpool Canal in Bingley in the Aire Valley in West Yorkshire. I love the canal walk at any season but must admit springtime with all its blossom is quite magical there! Amazing place for a stroll!

Whitby – Yorkshire gem on the East Coast

And here it is – Friday! With a few showers already but also a bit of blue sky – just the type of weather we often have in Whitby when visiting off season. A visit to Whitby wouldn’t be complete without puffing and panting up those 199 steps (this detail is from guidebooks as I…

For this moody Saturday, beautiful Conistone village in Upper Wharfedale in Yorkshire Dales. St Mary Church – definitely worth a visit! Then as you walk above the village you meet a few locals… … and of course there is the Conistone Pie – prominent limestone outcrop shaped…. well in the form of… the pie.😊

Kilnsey Crag in Upper Wharfedale

It was a Saturday morning trip a few years ago which took us to the village of Kilnsey in Wharfedale in North Yorkshire. We stopped there to admire the Kilnsey Crag – a huge, overhanging limestone cliff. In early March it was still pretty empty in Kilnsey Park Estate. There were just us and a…

Big Garden Birdwatch 2021

Well, we’ve been quite chuffed today spending an hour watching out for the little fluffy visitors to our garden. Considering that only 3 years ago it was a part of the old industrial building with no greenery around, it is lovely to see that we have helped the nature to reclaim these grounds. It’s such…

The glory of Top Withens – Bronte Country

It’s another one of these days where it’s neither light or dark. Kind of dullish really so I think we could all do with a bit of cheering up with this lovely walk through the Bronte Country. In the most famous footsteps of The Girls as I call them. (I know too much familiarity but…

Our special place: Richmond in North Yorkshire

So far today weather-wise we’ve had a bit of everything: a little snow, a little rain but most importantly a LOT of sunshine and no wind. After the spooky howling of storm Christoph in the ginnel, must admit it made a nice change. All this amount of water last week brought to my mind Richmond…

Lights, Camera, Action!

And lights, camera, action! A little video caught on camera while watching the filming of the first series of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ in Grassington… pardon Darrowby of course.

All Creatures Great and Small in Grassington

It’s a bit of a doom and gloom outside so I think we all need some warmth and lifting up of the spirits. And what better with than a little reminder of the tough yet charming world of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. We were lucky enough to visit Grassington back in 2019 when the…

Blissful time in Burnsall
